What is the preamble of the Indian constitution?

PREAMBLE is the identity card of  the Indian constitution.preamble is based on the objective resolution drafted and moved by pandit Nehru. Preamble have some ingredients like, Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic , Republic, Justice, Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

  • USA is the first country who used the concept of preamble.

Text of the preamble,


We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST, SECULAR,DEMOCRATIC, REPUBLIC and to secure to all of its citizens;
JUSTICE social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;and to promote among them all;
FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the nation;
In our Constituent Assembly, this 26th day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

  • the preamble status that the conservation derived its authority from the people of,
  • Nature of Indian state it declared India to be sovereign socialist secular democratic and republication polity.
  • Objective is specific justice Liberty equality and fraternity as the objective.
  • Adoption of the conservation is November 26 1949.



1) sovereign ( status):


  • India is a Sovereign state( independent state)
  • free to conduct its own affairs  
  • (both internal and external)
  •  commonwealth
  •  United nation organisation (UNO)

2) socialist:-


  • 42nd amendment 1976
  •  India is a democratic socialism and not a common stick socialism also known as state socialism.
  •  democratic socialism things to and poverty ignorance disease and inequality of opportunity.
  • Indian socialism is a blend of Marxism and Gandhidham learning heavily towards Gandhian socialism.


3) secular 

  • 42nd amendment 1976
  •  article 25 to 28
  •  all religion same status and position


4) democratic 


  • popular sovereignty
  • Direct and indirect 
  • democracy political and social democracy


 democratic principle

 executive is responsible to the legislature for all its policies and action universal adult franchisep periodiccollection Nerul of law independent of judiciary and absence of discrimination on certain ground.

5) republic  

  • elected head 
  • no dynacast  
  • public office open to all


6) justice 


  • social ,economic ,political justice
  •  Justice social economic and political has been taken from the Russian revolution (1971)
  •  distributive justice economical justice


7) Liberty 


  • the idea of Liberty equality and fraternity in our preamble have been taken from the french revolution( 1789 to 1799 )
  • absence of restraint
  •  opportunity for development individuals
  •  not absolute but qualified 


the law will decide what is allowed and what is disallowed in Liberty.

8) equality


  •  civic equality
  •  economic equality
  •  and political equality


 equality in under article 14 -15 -16 -17 -18  economic equality article 39 
and 325 and 326 article in political equality

9)fraternity


  •  sense of brotherhood 
  • fundamental duties
  •  single citizenship


  1.  dignity of the individual 
  2. unity and integrity of the nation


 the word integrity has been added to the preamble by the 42nd constitutional amendment act 1976.
